Alopecia, most commonly known as Baldness, has been a problem for decades affecting both men and women of all ages. While It is nothing but a blemish of the scalp, it could easily turn into a serious psychological problem (see PHP psychological aspect system). Scientific Aspect: analyzing the causes of Alopecia can be defined on the basis of targeted local treatments; genetic factors are primarily responsible for androgenetic alopecia. When, apart from the genetic factor, other factors also appear, the fall can become dramatic. Among the causes are hormonal ones, due to a dysfunction of the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal, food due to a  of deficiency of protein, vitamins or minerals etc; pharmacological causes caused by prolonged use of drugs, antidepressants and many others; Psychological causes can cause hair loss.

Types of alopecia

According to Hamilton's original classification (1951), five stages are distinguished:

  • Stage I: symmetrical retraction fronto-temporal with eventual and subsequent retraction of the front line; does not represent, as already mentioned, a prelude to the binding pattern baldness;

  • stage II: accentuation of stage 1 with a slight retraction of the frontal hairline and thinning of the summit;

  • Stage III: the two areas of alopecia, front and rear, tend to merge and persists only a narrow strip of hair;

  • Stage IV: final alopecia fronto-parietal and vertex with high permanence of a "crown" of hair in the temporo-occipital zone;

  • Stage V: as 4 but with the "crown" of smaller residual.

Alopecia involution

  • Androgenetic Alopecia: affects men and women. In men, hair loss already begins during the teenage years or to age 20. In this case the so-called hair loss occurs at the crown, in the temples and in the frontal area. While, in women thinning hair occurs around 40 years or more.

  • Alopecia Areata: often begins suddenly, can affect children and young people, and causes hair loss in patches, until arriving in extreme cases the total loss (total alopecia). For most, the hair grows back within a few years.

  • Psychogenic alopecia or by stress: This type of alopecia is associated predominantly with stress, personality disorders, anxiety states and depression. It shows a diffuse thinning of the hair especially in the middle of the head leaving intact the front line.
